Living WISEly

Living WISEly: An App Idea Design Contest

Living WISEly is an opportunity for teenage girls to apply their creativity to one of the most heavily discussed topics in today’s classrooms: sustainability. Sustainability refers to meeting your own needs without compromising the ability of future generations to do the same. There are four types of sustainability: human, social, economic, and environmental. We encourage participants to develop their own interpretations of sustainability and define it in any way they want. At this point in time where the need to create habits that support the well-being of our planet and beyond is so vital, we want to challenge you to come up with a design for your own App that either promotes or is related to the above definition of sustainability in some way.

Contestant application intake begins December 1, 2020 and the deadline to apply is being extended to February 12, 2021. Participants will attend staggered virtual check-ins where they will pitch their ideas to a panel and receive feedback on their designs. All submitted entries will be assessed for necessity, originality, adherence to theme, presentation, as well as the participant’s incorporation of our feedback. We’re looking for contestants to take a simple idea and strategically plan out an App that will function in the way they wish. Those who present their App in the most engaging way and who have considered the many components of the design process will have a chance to win one of three tech prizes.

Note: We are NOT looking for participants to produce an App, we are simply looking for participants to plan, design, and pitch the idea for one.

To be eligible to partake in this contest, contestants must be between the ages of 14 and 16 by 1 January 2021 and identify as female. Participants must attend school in one of the Atlantic provinces: Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, or Newfoundland and Labrador.

Teams of two are allowed to participate but each contestant must meet all the eligibility criteria listed above.
