Colouring the Galaxy

General STEM, Science,
Virtual Event, through Zoom.

This 45-minute virtual event will explore concepts of light and the electromagnetic spectrum as students learn how scientists add colour to monochromatic images of celestial objects taken with powerful telescopes. Led by Tiffany Fields, Educational Assistant with WISEatlantic, students will learn more about the Burke-Gaffney Observatory at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, NS, and will get to try their hand at creating some colourful celestial objects of their own using online software!

This event is open to classes of grade 8 & 9 students and their teachers in Atlantic Canada. Teachers who register their class will be send the Zoom participation link the day of the event. For the hands-on component of the session where students can try creating their own images, they will require a computer (Chromebooks work great!) and internet access.
